Using the market sizing tool

You probably know from experience that market size estimates are tough to collect. The research process is time-consuming and inefficient.

That’s why CB Insights built a way to aggregate and compare market sizes. We created the largest database of estimates from outside experts, enabling our clients to simply browse and search through thousands of markets, average the total addressable market, and easily identify related markets. With this dataset, you can target the best markets for expansion and investment.

To start, login to cbinsights.com and open up the navigation tool in the top left of the screen. Scroll down to the Research section and you’ll find Market Sizings underneath the Research heading.

Once you’re in the Market Sizing view, you can scroll through our list of markets to begin your research.

For example, let’s say you’re a pharma company interested in pursuing the cannabis market, but struggling to make the case to management.

You can search for cannabis with our drop down, type-to-search feature.

Here, you can review the market sizes and drill down to see historical data and sources to support the total addressable market.

We’ve made it easy to sift through geographies and years, removing past estimates from our Analyst Consensus score, which is an average of the current market sizes. We call this approach “the wisdom of the crowd.” Because estimates vary, we leverage the combined wisdom of multiple experts so you can benefit from the variation to make an informed decision.

With our Related Markets feature, you can see critical data about adjacent markets to understand and assess future growth opportunities. Adjacent markets provide context for smart decision-making.

Quantifying market size can help you determine how big an opportunity is, understand the best opportunity or deals to prioritize, and ultimately influence management to drive decision-making and the allocation of resources.
